From Jericho to Jerusalem

Matthew 20:18-19 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” Jesus is leaving Jericho and He is on his way to Jerusalem and He declares his mission to the disciples. He will be betrayed, condemned to death and crucified. There is no doubt that his mission was prepared and planned. It was planned since eternity. The way He goes to his death does not leave any doubts. The way to the cross started way before He left Jericho. The noise of Eve biting in the forbidden fruit was still resounding through the garden and Jesus was already on his way to Calvary.

But Jesus went to the cross with the promise of God in his heart. He declared that promise out loud and loud enough for hell to be able to hear it “And the third day He will rise again”. Notice the “AND”. Jesus did not try to go around Jerusalem but He proclaimed the promise of God knowing that He was about to face the most difficult time of his life.

Maybe you are reading these words and you can see your own Jerusalem in your horizon. Maybe you have an extremely difficult situation to face. You can see the walls of your own Jerusalem, your own pain becoming a soon reality. You can see the difficult time coming and you know that you have to face your Jerusalem.

Be encouraged this morning. Look at Jesus and see his example. When you see your own Jerusalem emerging in the horizon, walk towards it with the promises of God in your mouth. When darkness is heavy and oppression is all around, draw your strength from His word and His promises. Just like Jesus declared that He would rise again on the third day, declare His promises in your life. Declare them with faith and out loud, loud enough for hell to hear you! If God is for us who can be against us?
